Vera Molnar has been selected for the 59th Venice Art Biennale, “The Milk of Dreams” by exhibition curator Cécilia Alemani.
The artist is considered a pioneer of digital art.
For its third personal exhibition, the Berthet-Aittouarès gallery presents the very important collage work of Vera Molnar.
Since 1947, Vera Molnar has tirelessly drawn, painted, sculpted, programmed, conceptualized, spatialized an impressive number of works.
First conceived as laboratory research, his first works were developed in a constructivist state of mind then enriched with knowledge of the psychology of form and the laws of vision, becoming questions, plastic questioning of optics. .
A cybernetician then a computer scientist, in the 1960s she set up a mode of production that she called the imaginary machine before becoming the first artist in France (1968) to use a computer connected to a plotter to produce digital drawings.
Until the mid-1990s, she carried out a systematic exploration of formal families whose mutations she staged, most often favoring recovery and seriality as axes of development.
Finally, until today, a last creative phase at Vera Molnar paradoxically combines mastery and freedom, know-how and the quest for surprise.
For the first time in the history of the exhibition of the artist's works, the Berthet-Aittouarès gallery is going to highlight and propose a genealogy of a type of construction fundamental to the entire career of Vera Molnar and which underlies tends each of the previously mentioned plastic modes: collage.
From Circles and Half-moons of the 1950s to the very latest Truncated Squares of the 2020s, 40 collages chosen as so many markers of this practice will allow amateurs to realize its conceptual importance at the heart of the artist's creative approach.
